Kingsmarch (/kingsmarch/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Large Town located in Kijosohu County, Hesan County, within the Kingdom of Helsteria.

The name Kingsmarch is derived from the Sylvin language, as Kingsmarch was founded by Scaibihn Spenceley, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Kingsmarch has a yearly average temperature of 27°C (80°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a hot 31°C (87°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a pleasant 23°C (73°F). Kingsmarch receives an average of 143 cm/y (56 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Kingsmarch covers an area of nearly 6 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 3226 m (10583 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Kingsmarch was founded durring the late 11th century, by Scaibihn Spenceley. The establishment of Kingsmarch was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Scaibihn Spenceley struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Kingsmarch as a prison colony.

Kingsmarch was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 11th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Kingsmarch is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature timber framed wooden shiethed or brick construction, which gives form to a very formalized, rational, expence effishent arcatectural style based on strictly symmetrical designs which universaly feature pitched roofs, shutters, and the occasional column or pilaster for a decorative touch.

Kingsmarch is is constructed arround a semi-circular restrictive cobblestone mainstreet, with smaller strait roads linking the circiles to eachother at varrious points. The town is the proud owner of a thick set of fortified walls fashioned from querried stone blocks. While not up to snuff for a fort or castle wall, the town's walls are naturaly much larger than those of forts or castles. Therefore, the construction such a wall is most expencive. Kingsmarch's buget focused wall would serve its community well in battle in spite of looking unimpressive compared to castles and fortresses. Kingsmarch's top tier civilian fortifications are suffering from significent damage, so much so that examples can be pointed to no matter which section one might have within their line of site, and most of which render sections inoperable at present.

Right off the bat Kingsmarch hits you in the face with its success. Everyone, even the peasants, are dressed in well made clothing. Every tool and implement you can see is finely made, and people will boast to you as obvious strangers of the wonders which can be found in their markets. More interestingly is a total lack of beggars, and plenty of new buildings are going up even as you speak. Somehow this town has come into quite a lot of wealth, and recently from the looks of things. The town is very clearly a joyfull place as well as wealthy. Music can be heard often, as well as laughter. The smell of food and drink permiates the air. You can’t help but smile.

Kingsmarch has an animal control department which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the control, impoundment, and disposition of animals.

They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for Kingsmarch's parks.

Kingsmarch has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Kingsmarch.

Kingsmarch has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Kingsmarch has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Kingsmarch has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Kingsmarch's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Kingsmarch has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Kingsmarch's natural decorations nor waterways.

Kingsmarch has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Kingsmarch has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

Kingsmarch's chapel was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is known primarily for its use of abstraction and simplicity. Clean lines, right angles, and primary colors characterized this aesthetic and art movement expressed via architecture and paintings. Its design ethos allows only primary colors and non-colors, only squares and rectangles, only straight and horizontal or vertical lines. Vertical and horizontal lines are positioned in layers or planes that do not intersect, thereby allowing each element to exist independently and unobstructed by other elements. These seemingly impossible principals for an architectural style coalesces into structures which most experts find hard to put into words. It is not that their geometry is impossible, but rather the style's attempt at producing works only describable visually was most successful..

In Kingsmarch rain occurs in reverse with water pooling up from the earth then falling into the skies to from clouds, this unsettles every visitor that sees it.

The Mud Elemental, Medium near Kingsmarch are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Kingsmarch's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves square dance to channel Mysticism energies of tier 2 via mimery.

Economy

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century Kingsmarch was rocked by a string of powerful winter storms. The worst of the disaster struck The storm coated everything in a thick layer of ice and freezing countless animals, plants, and people to death. Kingsmarch lost 218 people, and 249 livestock in the disaster.. The disaster is remembered as the Ill Tides Screams, after the sounds of the winds.
